The Harlingen Post (HarPo) is an experimental blog project. Our goal is to create a blog that gives Harlingen citizens a place to freely exchange ideas about local topics with or without revealing their identity.
The idea is to exchange ideas - not insults. Sometimes, it seems that people in Harlingen resist expressing their views because they are afraid of retribution. This is true especially of those who do business with the City or work for the City or have a friendship with a City Official.
The Harlingen Community needs an outlet where differing views can be discussed without having to resort to arguing in the newspaper.
The Harlingen Post gives everyone the ability to express their views on local issues, without getting personal, and without publishing anger in the paper.
Each day, The Harlingen Post will post one or more 'Daily Topics'. The three topics with the highest number of comments will be featured in 'Hot Topics'.
In addition, readers may email suggestions for topics or actual articles they would like to see added at harpo@harlingenpost.com.. As long as the articles follow our guidelines, they will be published.
The Harlingen Post encourages provocative and controversial posts, but we all posts must follow these guidelines:
Ideas - Not Insults
Relevant Issues- not Hurtful Gossip
Substance, not Fluff
Keep It DRY - Don't Repeat Yourself
Less Is More
Good Spelling & Grammar (please)
Repeated violations of these guidelines may result in blacklisting of the offending computer.
Thank you and Happy Posting,
The Harilngen Post
